Uneasiness. Is it justified?

Posted by motle on 30 Apr 2008 | Tagged as: GM Suggestions

I got to thinking about Mulder coming back. Is that going to disrupt us? Everyone is saying that he will get a starting spot and somebody will move to relief and then someone else goes to AAA or released.

I like the “chemistry” that we have now. Mulder will alter that. That, my friends, makes me uneasy.

Am I paranoid or anyon else “sense” this?

Let me know.

Who woulda thunk it?

Yes, I am a High School English teacher. But, who woulda thunk that the Cards would have such a spectacular month of April? (Dizzy Dean thoughts are ok here) It has been a joy to watch and listen tothem.  My personal record in attendance is 0-1 (losing to SF on a Sunday).

The crow birds that love to knock all things Cards are speechless and are searching and waiting (you know which forum that is) for the stumble.

Me? I am a fan and enjoy the games. Win or lose I stay a fan. My grandpa raised me to be a Cardinals fan years ago and now I have 3 adult children that are all Cards fans. WOO stinkin’ HOO.

Let’s have some fun.

Almost Hit by Pitch was the turning point.

Adam Wainwright sent a message to the Astros and Roy Oswalt that pitching inside continually will result in some more retaliation. This was PLAY of the GAME. doing this got inside the head of Oswalt for an inning and Lo and Behold he wavered and we scored.

Ausmus over reacted. We responded. Nice job, Adam. Good  game, Cardinals!

BACKE tomorrow. How will he respond to the earlier confrontation with Pujols? Trouble brewing?

Izzy Agonizing. To watch the Cardinals blow a lead in the ninth inning with the closer, Izzy on the mound. Maybe downright frustrating. It was if 80% of the fans “called” the Carlos Lee homer after the Astros tied it.

What do we do with Isringhausen? Just play through it? Is he our best bet? Do we quickly develop a new 9th inning guy like Perez or McClellan? There is one forum out there that has a multitude of posters that want to “release” him quickly. They are saying, and rightfully so, that the hip may be bothering him more than we know. I just hope the Cardinals practice of withholding medical information is a thing of the past.

I tend to believe we should just bide a bit more time. Afterall, he has been pretty good and no one is excellent every time out. I would explore a trade with someone in a month or so to package Izzy (does he have a no trade clause?) and some others to help get that impact bat that Mozeliak has been talking about for so long.

Every closer fails once in awhile.

The norm or a hiccup?

The Cardinals have endured 2 2-game losing streaks so far this year. They have been beaten by the Pirates. the lowly Pirates that the Cubs handled easily.

We botched a double play. Some blame the pitcher (Reyes) and some blame the middle infielders. I don’t stinkin’ care just fix it.

Brendan Ryan will start tonight to many peoples delight. A full legion of fans have wanted him at SS since Spring training started and wanted Izturis benched. The moment is here. BR has to bat better the Isturis, right? He doesn’t have a glove that is as good. We shall see.

Is this the way the Cards are supposed to play or is it just a hiccup and things get better from here on out?

Does he deserve to be a regular on this team? His hitting has been phenomenal for the most part. But will exposing him to regular work diminish his hitting?

Is he a better option off the bench and a late inning defensive replacement for Duncan?

My answer: Keep him spot starting. It has been working. Someone goes into a prolonged slump then use him as a starter.

The second base fiasco.

Kennedy isn’t cutting it. Besides, he almost killed our superstar at first base. That alone puts him on a ticket out of town. Adam Kennedy doesn’t have any extra base hits so there is NO power in his bat. The defense is erratic. Cut our losses and let him go.

Aaron Miles is a player I like. But i like him for his ability to fill in and play from time to time. I don’t sense he is an everyday player. So with Miles, retain him to sub.

Hoffpauir is in the Triple A and most likely doesn’t have the experience or ability to sustain a season in the BIGS. He will someday be able to everyday it.

So what do we do?

Trade. But for whom? Who do we give up? I am not here to play the gme I did in grade school and junior high where I name a player and we make a trade. I am not privvy to inside facts to know if a deal can be made.

Who do I want to see us get? Somehow my choices are Brian Roberts, Eric Patterson or Dan Uggla.

Roberts makes the most sense for us but the payment may be too high. Patterson is a Cub so that deal is probably nil. Uggla’s bigget rap is he K’s too much.

Got a second base player you want? Let me know.

The dreaded fans day off.

Horrible, isn’t it?

The players need the day off but the fans wander aimlessly around the house, outside and through the internet looking for ways to fill in time as their favorite team sits.

I guess I will type some things.

Fan forums:

There are about 3 of them I frequent as a Cardinals fan. They are each very different and each of them are proud of it.

One is the negative crowd, at least they try to be that way. They try very hard to find fault in all things Cardinal players don’t excel at and they are particularly keen on the management. This forum doesn’t enjoy the season and each game. They will tell you they are realist. A few are downright rude to others if their opinions are different.

Another is the middle of the road. They post the factual items and look at things in a lighter vein. They enjoy the season and each game and analyze them with statistics. A few dig at the players and management. The majority of the time they are bent on the game analysis and for the most part are nice to everybody.

The last one is full of people that post anything and everything. From the most proposterous ideas and opinions and very few intelligent baseball posts. the emphasis here is to rile people up and get them name call back. Almost no good posts are made by 90% of them.

Fan forums: A place where people hide behind a made up name and can say what they want. Where people can be self imposed important. Where they can get their opinions out without any reservations. Bullying is important to some and substance is minimal.

If the Schu fits….

…play him. After the initial series in which Skip Schumaker went hitless, then sat out 4 games, he has been a very good leadoff hitter. 8 for 13 is outstanding. I believe TLR will ride this one out. Good for him.

Lots of words written about whether Pujols is a jerk or not. I don’t care. If he can bash the ball and play like his has the last couple of series, let him be a jerk. Makes no difference to me. I prefer to call it INTENSITY.

Ankiel- good to see him get a day off, even if did get one AB.

Lohse- remarkable, Kyle has been almost lights out. Makes the money look good that we spent.

Barton- deserves to play but i am not sold on him being anymore than a spot starter and regular sub.

LaRussa- good start fro him. He has not done anything that most wouldn’t do (except pitcher batting 8th).

I will take 8 wins out of 11 games all the way through the rest of the schedule.

Talkin' trash

Posted by motle on 09 Apr 2008 | Tagged as: GM Suggestions

Go ahead, Backe. Talk trash to me, man! Get in Albert’s face and tell him how you have 22 wins in your lifetime. That will give you alot of street cred. Let him know that you dont appreciate his slide into your catcher even though he said he probably was wrong. Get some press over. You stood up to El Hombre. You know what you did?

Woke him up. Thanks man. Albert went deep twice and was on base 4 times. He was struggling for Albert.

Not now. Good job giving him a nudge.

On another note: Skip looked good tonight against the Astros. That team doesn’t look very good, although Tejada has looked terrific in the field.

Izzy just does his job. Leading the league in saves.

3 series so far. Winners of 3 series. Impressive.

On to SF for some late night TV watching.
