Are we ready to pack it in? I am not ready but we are faltering. With September around the corner who should get the call?
Motte
Garcia
Anderson
I don’t think Rasmus has earned the call.
Anyone I am forgetting?

Anything less and we might as well figure our chances of a playoff berth are gone. Even TLR believes it is important.

With the news that Izzy is out for the season and maybe for his career, I would like to issue a big THANK YOU for all the good things you have done for the Cardinals.
Izzy had some outstanding seasons here and hopefully he can return somewhere and get his 300th save,
Most likely, it will be in another uniform.
When Isringhausen was good, he was very good.

No need to discuss it all winter. No need to bring Isringhausen back. Case Closed. Chris Perez can do that job. I am sure he will have an occasional hiccup, but he is our closer.
Last night in Florida, Perez was able to show his moxie. The man just worked himself out of a jam that was looking bleak.
So to reiterate, save money this winter on a closer. WE HAVE ONE!

Carpenter
Wainwright
We never get straight answers on these injuries.
Why is TLR so much in a hurry to rush people back?
Last few years it was Rolen, Edmonds and Eckstein and a potpourri of pitchers that were hurt and came back and then had to take more time off.
What’s going on?
Are they inept?

It can be an ugly thing. It can be a downright decent thing, too.
The Cardinals have wo guys with lots of pride and they are making this team begin a downward spiral. Jason Isringhausen and Tony LaRussa have been in baseball together for many years now. Izzy, as we know, has been atrocious and TLR has announced that Izzy closes games. Ok, then CLOSE the game.
Last night was horrible even though we won. Tony just wants Izzy to get to 300 saves it appears, no matter what happens. Well, that is getting in the way of a pennant race.
I am hoping Izzy decides on his own to pack it in for the rest of the year and Perez or Motte or about anybody becomes a new bullpen guy.
BTW: I want Wainwright in the ‘pen when he returns for the remainder of this season.

I know the LOOGY part. Why do we not hear of the other?
Too many righthanders out there? That is all I can muster as a guess.
Any thoughts on that?

First of all I wish the best to Chris duncan on his surgery. Hopefully it will rectify his problems and he will go on to have a productive MLB career.
Now. The Bulpen has been atrocious. So why did Springer come in the 8th when it was Franklin’s time? TLR said Izzy was the closer so that everyone else could KNOW THEIR ROLES from there. Then he deviated from that last night.
Stavinoha for Schumaker? Let’s quit doing that crap! Let Skip play in those circumstances. Too many MATCHUPs being considered. Hitters hit…left or right…they hit. Somebody was looking at too many charts for that one.
I am disappointed.

Going to turn it around and be the closer we were used to before the debacle?
Last night showed signs pointing in a couple of different directions.
He didn’t close them out with any flaws. He struggled with some command.
Can we count on him to be a real bonafide closer for the remainder of the year.
I have my doubts.

It appears TLR doesn’t want to embarrass the Braves with a sweep so he gives everyone the night (not AP) at the same time. That lineup last night was destined to NOT win. If I was Joel Piniero, I wouldn’t be happy. But then again I would be mad because I pitched like junk, too.
Rest is good, I suppose. So let’s go get the Phillies because I can’t see the Pirates helping by beating THAT other team.
Phillies and then the Manny led Dodgers followed by the Cubs.
Tough times ahead?
