Rasmus is great an all but I’d like to see the Cards pick up an outfielder who isn’t a lefty. If we delayed getting an outfielder until Rasmus our projected outfield would most likely be Duncan, Rasmus, Ankiel. Plus, all 3 have relatively little mlb experience. You can’t tell how they’ll develope in the next two or three years. Duncan slumped toward the end of the year and Ankiel, as hot as he was, hasn’t really proven any consistency. We need some sort of verteran outfielder who can be the anchor while the rest find their niche.

I am not convinced that Rasmus will be anything “special”. We get offered a major league ready player for him that we can live with, then we need to do the deal.

We get Hunter, Colby is gone.

Daniel, If you can go get a good CF, maybe Tori Hunter, can Rasmus play RF or LF? I agree that he will be in the majors in 09′ or ever mid to late 08′. But if he could play another outfield position, that would let the GM be able to sign the best available outfielder for the long term.

Well, you don’t want to go long term on a CF because Rasmus should be ready by ’09, and you don’t want to block him (and his cheap salary).

I’m also glad Pineiro signed with us. But I agree, he’s a #3 at best and with our rotation as it is we need someone solid. I believe Mulder will be back but if he pitches like he did in his last few outings I’m not sure he’ll help. And as much as I love Carp we can’t expect anything out of him. He’ll be out for a long time and who knows what he’ll be like when he comes back. I agree 100% with Ty, we need a centerfielded, Edmond’s time is short and we need to forget any loyalty we have. He finished the year with a .252 average and he can’t hit lefty pitching to save his life. Milton Bradley and Aaron Rowand are both free agents and I can’t see how you would go wrong with either of them.

I agree that this is a nice deal. Is Mulder going to be back at all? If he is, it should be on the cheap. That would give us 4 starters and if Carp can come back by July, it would fill the entire rotation. If we can get another $5-7 million pitcher, I say go for it. Cut some of the dead weight and get another outfielder, hopefully a CF.

I’m not as thrilled. It’s another #4, #5 starter on a staff full of them. I figure you could get someone else of the similar stature for much cheaper.

Right now, the front office needs a little creativity. They are just bringing back pieces of the ’07 team, and that’s a little different than recaputuring ’04.
