The Cardinals played Tuesday in Kissimmee, Fl at Champion Field on the campus of the Wild World of Sports. Many of the regular players didn’t travel for this game. It was mainly a few younger regulars and minor leaguers that made up the squad.
Mike Leake took the hill for the Cardinals and pitched rather well. He tossed 3 innings and allowed no hits, no walks and fanned three batters. His game score was 61. Robby Rowland pitched one hit and was saddled for the loss as the Braves scored their only two runs on a Brandon Phillips double.
Rowan Wick tossed one inning and walked one and struck out one. Josh Lucas threw one inning and Junior Fernandez last two innings and walked two but allowed no runs.
On offense, the big hitter was Magneuris Sierra as he had three hits in the game but also was picked off in the game. Kolten Wong was picked off once and got caught stealing another time. The Cardinals lost 2-0.
Mike Matheny made the trip to the Braves field to watch his son, Tate Matheny, play against the Cardinals. Tate struck out in his only at-bat.
The next game is Wednesday in Jupiter, Fl as the Cardinals host the New York Mets. Thursday, the Braves return the visit for a game in Jupiter.
