Cardinals GM John Mozeliak Answers Some of My Questions

John Mozeliak answered some of the questions posted by the United Cardinals Bloogers. The complete rundown will come soon but for now here is the answers he gave to me on two of my questions.

(CardinalsGM)

1.Who do you consider the leading internal SS candidate in the Cardinals to reach St. Louis?

Mo: I feel like with the shortstop situation, I’m happy that Aledmys Diaz ended up having a really strong second half. Clearly, Oscar Mercado had a nice season at A-ball. And somebody like an EdmundoSosa, from an offensive standpoint, is an exciting young player to watch. So do we have the next superstar coming? Probably not, but do we have some helpful pieces coming? The answer is yes.

2.The Arizona Fall League, as I write this, has shown good numbers from Alex Reyes and Luke Weaver. Could they be wearing the Birds on the Bat before September?

Mo: Weaver, after a very slow start this past year in Spring Training ended up having an excellent season, and I think he opened up a lot of eyes. Clearly he has the fastball to pitch at a
very high level, still working on his secondary pitches. But given the success he had last year we do have very high expectations for him this year. DoI anticipate him wearing the Birds on the Bat at some point? The answer is absolutely. Reyes, who was probably a hiccup away from being a part of the Major League team, and what I mean by that is, clearly his suspension is going to delay some of that progress. The key thing for him is he has to learn from this, and it can’t happen again. I know he’s embarrassed and he wishes it didn’t happen, but moving forward,I think his focus is going to be one hundred percent on the game of baseball.

It’s nice when John Mozeliak answers some of my questions.

Thanks to Cardinals General Manage John Mozeliak.
