Luis Pino, Cardinals Prospect, finds him coming in at #26. He is an outfielder. He was signed in 2021 for $800,000 bonus. He defected from Cuba in 2019 and the Cardinals snatched him up. He is 17 years of age.
He is a combination of moderate power, speed and and a slightly below average arm that finished his first year in professional baseball. In 40 games fro the DSL Cardinals he batted .248 and smacked six home runs and drove in 19 runs.
His young age is a plus for his development and future chances of moving through the organization. He shows a desire and willingness to learn and get better, Pino flashes the ability to make hard contact and hit in the gaps.
It is likely he will need to bulk up a bit from his 5’11” and 175 lb. frame. If he does that may slow him a step or two and a likely move to a corner outfield is possible at the next level.
Luis Pino Future Look
Next season, he will likely be assigned to High-A Peoria. Currently, he is projected to have a major league ETA of 2024.
