Kodi Whitley was chosen in the 27th round of the 2017 draft after having a good season in relief at the collegiate level. He had Tommy John surgery during in his Junior year at the University of Mount Olive in North Carolina.
He is 25 years of age at 6’3″ and 220 lbs, he possesses some serious fastball stuff that is his dominant pitch. With that, he has a plus slider and above average control. Last season he played at three levels of the minor leagues for the Cardinals organization.
His fastball tops between 94-97 mph with very good angle nd zip to it while the slider has a downward action and is in the mid 80’s. He can effectively use his change-up against left handed bats. He was impressive in the Arizona Fall League.
He is known as a fly ball pitcher that can be stubborn in allowing home runs. He went 24 innings in the PCL without allowing the long ball. He is projected to be in the major leagues in 2020.
